Review Of 2012: BEST Music Videos Of 2012

Rihanna's Dave Meyers directed video 'Where Have You Been' has to be my favourite video of 2012. First of all you get to see Rihanna indulge in some choreographed dance steps and then the video just has this mysterious aura about it. Then the end part with the multiple arms like some sort of Indian Goddess is simply stunning.

Rihanna - Where Have You Been

Bonus:  Some of my other fave videos of 2012

Drake ft. Rihanna - Take Care

Lana Del Rey - Ride

Esthero - Never Gonna Let You Go

P!Nk - Try

Dragonette - Live In This City

Kanye West - Lost In The World

Solange - Losing You

Cassie - King Of Hearts

Azealia Banks - Liquorice

Dawn Richard - Wild N' Faith

Norah Jones - Happy Pills

Norah Jones - Miriam

Review Of 2012: BEST/WORST Albums/Mixtapes Of 2012

When the clock strikes 12:00 AM tonight a new year will begin so before that happens I want to do one more "Review Of 2012" post. So lets start off with the BEST albums (in my opinion) of 2012.

The BEST Albums Of 2012

Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss

This BC native made waves in the pop music world with her infectious track 'Call Me Maybe', which turned Carly into a household name. The best part about Carly is she's no one hit wonder. Her first international selling album, Kiss, is filled with 80's tinged bubble gum pop tracks that are just as good as 'Call Me Maybe'.

My Fave Tracks:

- I Know You Have A Girlfriend
- Kiss
- Wrong Feels So Right
- Turn Me Up
- Curiosity (Kiss Remix)

Kreesha Turner - Tropic Electric

Exotic looking Canadian singer Kreesha Turner proves that you can have the best of both worlds if you want. Tropic Electric is a mix of contemporary dance pop music and dance-hall Jamaican music. The album is completely different and innovative and also shows that artist of West Indian heritage don't have to disown their roots to recive mainstream success.

My Fave Tracks:

- I Feel My Darling
- I Could Stay
- Krypotonite
- Rock, Paper, Scissors
- Killer In The club
- Don't Leave Me Now

Cheryl - A Million Lights

Former X Factor judge and Girls Aloud alumni, Cheryl Cole released her third album, A Million Lights, which put her on my radar. Before this album I honestly didn't pay her or her former girl group much attention but after listening to A Million Lights I've gained a new respect for her as a recording artist. I won't be so quick to overlook and dismiss her again.

My Fave Tracks:

- Call My Name
- Craziest Things ft.
- Ghetto Baby
- Sexy Den A Mutha
- Telescope
- Teddy Bear
- All Is Fair
- Boys Lie
- Dum Dum

Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (The Re-Up)

Hate her or love her! I can never seem to decide. Anyway I'm pretty sure this post will loose all credibility to my fellow music critics for saying this but I thoroughly enjoyed Nicki Minaj's sophomore projects with the exception of 'Stupid Hoe' and 'Roman Holiday'. Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is a delicious blend of sweet pop tracks with a hint of cayenne and a few overlooked rap tracks. Many critics claimed the album wasn't street enough and that she disowned her roots to sell out. As far as I see it, hood mixtape Nicki would've never gotten to where she is now without her experimenting in the pop genre.

My Fave Tracks:

- Beautiful Sinner
-  I Am Your Leader ft. Cam'ron & Rick Ross
- Fire Burns
-  Right By My Side
- I Endorse These Strippers ft. Tyga & Brinx
- Va Va Voom
- Whip It
- Pound The Alarm
- Turn Me On
- Gun Shots ft. Beenie Man
- The Boys ft. Cassie
- Masquerade
- Freedom
- Automatic

Rita Ora - ORA

Roc Nations newest artist on the block is Rita Ora. They've made no secret that they've been grooming this British song bird to be the next big thing. I will say her debut album, ORA wasn't a fall in love at first listen thing for me but after awhile the album definitely grew on me.

My Fave Tracks:

- Roc The Life
- R.I.P. ft Tinie Tempah
- Radioactive
- Fall In Love ft.
- Hello, Hi, Goodbye
- Facemelt (I wish this intro track was a full song)

The Yes Ma'ams - Taste Test

I just recently found out about The Yes Ma'ams but after hearing their debut EP they quickly rocketed to the top of my BEST Albums/Mixtapes of 2012. To sum up the EP think of Prince, Vanity 6,and Electrik Red. So its a sassy fusion of retro dance and urban-electronic-dance.

My Fave Tracks:

- Vanessa
- What Girls Are Made Of
-  Only If I Say So
- Got A Problem

Download Taste Test HERE

Shanell - Nobody's Bitch

D.Woods sister and Young Money singer, Shanell has been releasing mixtapes with no sign of a studio album but why should I or her other fans complain she's giving us free music via mixtapes, which are better then most of her fellow artist pay for albums. If you like contemporary R&B then you'll love Shanell's Nobody's Bitch' mixtape.

My Fave Tracks:

- F*ck Me Daddy
- Just For The Night
- These Hoes Is Winnin ft. Too Short
- On The One
- Last Time ft. Busta Rhymes
- You
- Love Is A Losing Game

Download Nobody's Bitch HERE

Rihanna - Unapologetic

I can hardly believe that 7 years and 7 albums have passed since Rihanna hit the music scene. RiRi's seventh and first US #1 album, Unapologetic, is undeniably one of the best album of the year in my humble opinion. Rihanna shows growth as a musicians with more emotionally mature sounding tracks and lyrics but she doesn't make an entire Adele snooze fest piano album. Her rebellious I.D.G.A.F attitude makes many appearances on certain tracks.

My Fave Tracks:

The Entire Album but if I must choose then
- Phresh Off The Run Way
- Diamonds
-Numb ft. Eminem (She's so amazing that she actually got me to like a song with Eminem as a feature)
- Pour It Up
- Jump
- What Now
- Stay ft. Mikky Ekko
- Nobody's Buisness ft. Chris Brown
-  Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary
- Lost In Pradise
- Half Of Me

WORST Albums Of 2012

Tulisa - Female Boss

The entiire album is made up of album fillers and nothing about it is catchy or exceptional.

The Only Good Tracks:

- Young
- Live Your Life
- Sight Of You

Ke$ha - Warrior

The album was just a miss to me... Not much else to say honestly

The Only Good Tracks:

- Supernatural
 - C'mon
- Die Young

Madonna - MDNA

After Madonna's Superbowl performance and after all the hype and sparkles faded away you realize your left with a pretty terrible album named after a drug.

The Only Good Tracks:

- I'm Addicted
- Girl Gone Wild
- Give Me All Your Luvin' ft. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.

Blog Update: Thinking Of Changing Blogs Name

I'm thinking of changing the blogs name to something else but I just got a run it by some of the others and see what they think.

I'd also like to try and monetize my blog and see how that works. I've been doing this blog unpaid for four years (soon to be five) and I think I deserve to make a little money since every body else is getting paid.

New Music: Download The Yes Ma'am's Debut Mixtape, "Taste Test"

Just before the end of 2012 I discovered a new girl group while surfing through various Tumblr pages. The totally amazing group is called The Yes Ma'ams and they consist of Secret, Privacy, and Slander (from left to right).

Check out their music video for their single 'What Girls Are Made Of' below.

Another notable track is their suggestive and sexy track 'Vanessa', which has a pounding electronic beat over sensual lyrics about a certain part of the female anotomy. Check it out below.

Review Of 2012: WORST, Over Hyped/Over Played, and Annoying Songs of 2012

Its the nearly the end of 2012 and we survived the so-called Mayan Apocalypse and any other calamity that was to befall man-kind this year. With 2013 drawing near this leaves me wondering what next year will hold for us but before we look forward we have look back at what has already passed.

I'll be looking back and reviewing the music scene of 2012 but before I get to the BEST stuff lets get the trash out of the way to start fresh with a new year.

So allow me to present the WORST, Over-hyped/Over-played, and Annoying songs of  2012 below. Please remember this is strictly my opinion and my other contributors opinions on this blog so no what I'm saying isn't fact but just an individuals critique of the year.

20. Drake ft. Lil Wayne - The Motto

Every one I know hates this stupid song! Its so basic and annoying and the Canadian radio stations can't get enough of it.

19. Goyte ft Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

I don't necessarily hate 'Somebody That I Used To Know' but since this was Gotye's only radio friendly song the radio insisted on playing it over and over and soon a great song became extremely ANNOYING and don't let me get started on all the terrible cover versions all over YouTube.

18. David Guetta ft. Sia - Titanium

God! How the radio made me detest this song! So overplayed and honestly I really have no clue why, since the song isn't even one of David Guetta's better tracks but whatever. I'll be happy if I don't hear this power ballad, disguised as a dance track again in 2013.

17. Fun. - Some Nights

This dated sounding mess was on heavy rotation constantly on the radio but unlike the two other previous songs on this list I actually hate this song so not only is it terrible but it was over-played as well.

16. Future - Turn On The Lights

If Future is the future of music then our future is mighty bleak. For real what the hell is this mess! He can't really sing or rap so what exactly does he do? The only redeeming quality is the beat of the song.

15. Chief Keef - Love Sosa

Not only is this song terrible but its really over-hyped. I don't even understand why music like this has a market still.

14. Trinidad James - All Gold Everything

Please! Can we deport Trinidad James back to Trinidad so that the North American music market can continue on without this junk. I seriously believe that when these artist get signed to major labels the record label's management signs artist like this with every intention of killing the music genre of hip-hop.

13. Kanye West ft. Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz - Mercy

Not only is this song super long but its extremely annoying and boring. Plus it gave birth to the ever annoying urban slang of "Swerve".

12. Cher Lloyd - Want U Back

Cher Lloyd was never anything really special but after crossing over to the North American market she got even worse. I hate this song with an undying passion! Especially her annoying constipated growls.

11. Major Lazer ft. Amber (of Dirty Projectors) - Get Free

This song is a mess! End of discussion.

10. Enrique Iglesias ft. Sammy Adams - Finally Found You

Basic as ever! Didn't Enrique already make this song or does all his crap sound like one of Pitbull's reject tracks.

09. Every Song that Pitbull and Flo-Rida came out with this year

08. Drake ft. The Weeknd - Crew Love

I hate this song and the radio made me hate it even more because they were always playing it (acting like Drake's and Justin Bieber are the only Canadian artist in the world) and the beat and just about everything in this song is so irritating.

07. Ludacris ft. Usher & David Guetta  - Rest Of My Life

Am I the only one who thinks this song sounds exactly like Usher's 'Without You' except with very minimal Ludacris verses? Ludacris is usually great but if he wants to stay great, please avoid these electronic house beats. Every verse he's ever delivered on music like this was terrible and if you don't believe me see his verse in David Guetta & Taio Cruz's song 'Bad Girl'.

06. Lil Jon ft. LMFAO - Drink

Why is this allowed to be? Where is my record deal?

05. Mariah Carey -  Triumphant (Get 'Em)

Mariah should be ashamed to even put her name on this song. This should go down as the worst comeback by any artist.

04. Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe

How ironic a stupid hoe proclaiming that some other girl is a stupid hoe.

03. Skylar Grey ft. Eminem - C'mon Let Me Ride

So much potential! What a shame. What happened to you Skylar? I expect this crap from Eminem but not from Skylar. I bet she thought she was so smart by making a pop satire, making fun of all the mainstream pop-tarts out right now but unlike when Pink made 'Stupid Girls' this song is terrible and was probably Skylar's sad attempt at getting attention since her music was and is generally underground.

02. Psy - Gangnam Style

I refuse to embed the youtube video for this song on my blog because I refuse to contribute to the monetizing of this garbage. This song being number in nearly every country is what is wrong with music. I remember rebuking people for liking this song when they blatantly don't know a lick of South Korean. Why are you listening to a song that you can't even uderstand? This song should have been a hit in Korea only but since he made a ridiculous dance that suburban folks liked it rocketed to the top of the charts. I really want to hear this "one hit wonder's" follow up to 'Gangnam Style'.

01. Aaliyah ft. Drake - Enough Said

'Gangnam Style' was nearly #1 worst song of the year but I'm giving that title to long deceased musician Aaliyah or should I say Drake, since Aaliyah or her direct family had no say in this songs release. The fact that Drake shamelessly used his so-called idols unreleased music to try and diss his rival (Chris Brown) and further his career is just trashy. Then the fact that the album that will house this music does not include production from Timbaland or Missy Elliot who were pinnacle parts in Aaliyah's success is even more ludicrous. Not to mention that her family doesn't want her legacy being tainted by releasing these unreleased songs as well but supposed fan, Drake and co. is going against their wishes so he can achieve some respect and money.

Ne-Yo - Let Me Love You

Talk about being over-played! I liked this song at one point until the radio decided to ruin it for me.

Anyway this concludes my WORST, Over-hyped/Over-played, and Annoying tracks of 2012. So yes please do stay tuned to find out what my BEST songs and albums of 2012 are. Happy Holiday readers.

Music Video: Calvin Harris ft.Tinie Tempah - Drinking From the Bottle

NSFW (video contains nudity)

Music Video: Samatha Jade - What You've Done To Me

Music Video: Talib Kweli Ft. Ryan Leslie – Outstanding

Music Video: The-Dream ft. Casha - Used To Be

Music Video: Krewella - Alive

Music Video: Cheyl Cole - Ghetto Baby

Cheryl releases her Lana Del Rey penned super hot track 'Ghetto Baby' from her uber awesome album, A Million Lights. The video I will say isn't that great and kind of seems like they had no direction and just kind rushed it out. Check it out below.

New Music: Nicole Scherzinger - Erotic Revolution

Nicole Scherzinger is gearing up to release her new single 'Boomerang' but while fans wait to hear the British X Factor judge's  new song they were surprisingly treated with the full leak of her former snippet track 'Erotic Revolution'. The song is hot and I highly doubt it will make it to her new album but one can hope.

Check out Nicole's new promo pictures for her new single 'Boomerang'.

New Music: The Saturdays ft. Sean Paul - What About Us

Its no secret that I and other contributors to this blog love girl groups ( I was rooting for Fifth Harmony on X-Factor U.S.). So I was ecstatic to hear that multicultural British girl group, The Saturdays our planning a crossover to the North American markets with their Sean Paul assisted Island Def Jam single, 'What About Us'.

This group is flawless and it meets all the criteria for a successful girl group in my opinion. Call me politically correct but I love a girl groups that consist of more then one ethnic background.

Artist Promo: Ashly Nicole - 4 AM

Before I start this post I want to say this song is straight FIYAH!!!!!

Anyway super talented singer, Ashly Nicole (see previous posts HERE & HERE) is back with her sexy and smooth contemporary R&B track '4 AM' from her upcoming new project.

The Y2JJ produced track has a lot of swearing in it but that's because the subject matter is about her cussing out her spouse. One would think the song would give off a hostile vibe but the song comes across as laid back and almost melancholic instead of heated and angry.

Music Video: Ester Dean - Baby Making Music

There's a pretty high chance that if you listen to pop music then you've heard something written by Ester Dean. She's responsible writing hits for Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland, Nicole Scherzinger and of course Rihanna. You might also recognize her from her own debut hit 'Drop It Low' and her role in singing movie, Pitch Perfect.

Well Ester Dean has been slowly finalizing her debut album and has been releasing hot music in the meantime such as her 90's-eques R&B single 'Baby Making Love'. The video is cute and is reminiscent of something TLC might've made. Check it out below.

Music Video: Harvey Stripes ft. Dru - Ghost

New Music: Stafford Brothers ft. Christina Milan & Lil Wayne - Hello

Australian DJ siblings the Stafford Brothers have teamed up with Christina Milian and her Cash Money/Young Money label boss, Lil Wayne for the first official musical offering since Milian left The-Dreams Radio Killa Records in 2009 (approximate time she left).

The track is titled 'Hello' and its a typical house electro-pop track and its kind of generic, which doesn't mean its bad its just not really innovative or anything. I will say what I usually say when I see Lil' Wayne as a feature, which is he was totally unnecessary for the track.

Artist Promo: Laura Warshauer - Running From The Grave + I Love You Mr. Grinch

Check out, Los Angeles Lollapalooza performer, Laura Warshauer's guitar driven track 'Running From The Grave'.

If your one of those festive Christmas kind of guys then you can check out her track, 'I Love You Mr. Grinch', which is an ode to a familiar tall, slim, and green Christmas antagonist, HERE.

Artist Promo: The Neighbourhood - A Little Death

Cali indie band, The Neighborhood have returned with their B-side track, 'A Little Death',  to their earlier release 'Let Go' (see the music video HERE).

'A Little Death' is moody and eerie like most of The Neighborhood's music but this particular song has an element of sensuality that the other songs lacked. What I'm trying to say is this is a pretty sexy song and if you don't believe me take a listen for your self then.

The music video is set for a December 25th (Christmas) release and you can purchase the track in mp3 format from iTunes HERE or  pre-order the 7" vinyl HERE.

Artist Promo: Jay Moezart, Benjamin Ad, Doller, Adz And Shallow - Struggle Through The Night (Charity Song)

This Christmas you can help save a life. How you ask? By helping spread the word about the lack of bone marrow donors for Afro-Caribbean and people of Afro-Caribbean descent in the UK.

To help spread the word, London rappers Jay Moezart , Benjamin Ad, Doller, Ard Adz, and Show Shallow have united with the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukemia Trust) to help raise money and awareness for the cause by releasing their #PushPotential single 'Struggle Through The Night', which will be available for purchase on Christmas Day via Amazon and iTunes. All proceeds will go to the ACLT, which promotes blood, bone marrow, and organ donation within the black community.

Check out the official video, directed by Urban Flash, media production below and to learn more about the ACLT and their #PushPotenial campaign then make sure you watch co-founder, Beverly De-Gale's video as well to find out how you can help.

For more information go to the official ACLT website ( to find out how you can help.

Music Video: Leona Lewis - Lovebird

Artsis Promo: Ginger And The Ghost - One Type Of Dark

Australian Duo, Ginger and The Ghost have released the artsy and unique video for their equally unique single ' One Type Of Dark'.

The magical song will appear on the the bands upcoming EP, which is scheduled for a January release.Make sure you check out their other music video 'Where Wolf' HERE.

Music Video: Tinashe - Ecstasy

Earlier this year, Tinashe, released her much anticipated, sophomore mixtape, Reverie (Download/Stream HERE), which spawned her dreamy and sexy single/music video ,'Ecstasy'. Check it out below.

Music Video: Alicia Keys - Brand New Me

I'm late to the party as usual but whatever I was gettin' my paper so I had no time to post this video when it  premiered on Dec 17th.

Anyway this is the lovely Alicia Keys' second single and one of my personal faves 'Brand New Me' from her latest album, Girl On Fire (November 22nd 2012).

In the video Alicia, self analiyzes herself and sheds off all the confining things that have been holding her back in life or that's at least how I percieved the concept.Watch below.

Music Video: Cassie - End Of The Line

Cassie has been taking her sweet time with releasing music or doing anything other then being some sort of socialite. Well Ms. Ventura has finally decided to grace her fans and critics with material with the viral video release for her new mixtape (RockaByeBaby) track, 'End Of The Line'. The video was filmed  during her Clam Magazine photoshoot so it may look very familiar.

The song is pretty good like everything Cassie makes but its not as exciting as I'd hope. Its kind of a deadpan slow track and if Cassie doesn't release new music thats super hot her musical career will be at the 'End Of The Line'.

Artist Promo: Brooke Campbell - The Escapist

Singer Songwriter Brooke Campbell has received the best gift she could receive this Christmas. Brooke received a grant from the Lincoln City and Speranza Foundation to help take her music to the next level.

One of her projects that she will be taking to the next level is her EP The Escapist, which consist of 7 tracks that range from haunting, magical, and soothing. You can stream The Escapist HERE
